A friend of mine was talking about his girlfriend... I mean we just came to know that he had one. Happy for him, we started our usual grilling session on how they met, parents know, further plans and blah blah...
He was more than happy to share.
We asked: When do you plan to get married?
Sreenu: within one or two years.
We : Cool. you are sorted. so, it is decided whom you would marry?
Sreenu: Yes
We: wow. thats cool. Our softspoken, innocent looking, hardworking guy has a GF.
So, all cool at home, I mean parents are fine with it na?
Sreenu: Well, mine have no issues, her side looks difficult.
We: Hmmm... so, what is it.... she too is a Mallu?
Sreenu: Ya
We: Then what's the issue?
Sreenu: It's inter caste
We: How?
Sreenu: Even inter religion
What's her name?
Lakshmi
Then, how come it is inter religion, man?
She is a Hindu
We: SO??????
Sreenu: She is Hindu and I am...
We: you are.....??
Sreenu: I am Christian
Our dude is a Malayalee Christian (Till yesterday I only knew that he is a mallu... looks like I assumed Mallus are obviously Hindus)
Well, so now we understand where the problem is. Boy's parents gradually are fine with it but on girl's end it is not going to be easy to convince.
We: So, your parents are pretty cool about it...
Sreenu: Well, it was not very simple right at the beginning.
We: How and when did you tell your parents...
Sreenu: With a PPT presentation.
We: What???!???!!!!
I found Sreenu's method of opening the fact about his GF to his parents, very very interesting.
Our guy, who works as a VFX artist in Mumbai, was on a home trip to Kerala chilling at home. He had made up his mind to tell his parents about Lakshmi in this trip. But was unable to gather courage! The right opportunity was just not arriving and it was getting late as days were passing since he had to return back to Mumbai.
Moreover he wanted to explain mom and dad separately in different styles! But it was just not happening!
One fine day as his parents were in the drawing room enjoying a superhit Mohanlal flick, our guy thought of completing his mission today.
He did his preparations by keeping the PPT ready.
Then in order to gather courage, he used a weird trick. He went and took shower in ICE COLD water (literally adding ice to the water). He thought this works great, though the validity of attaining courage is not more than 10 minutes or so. So our guy came out, dressed and went on to the drawing room, took the remote and.... switched off the television. Taken aback, the parents said they were enjoying a movie and wanted to continue. But he insisted they come to his room for a few minutes since he wanted to show them something.
Achan and Amma thought he wants to show the short film that he made and has shown them umpteen number of times. But he said no this is different. Oh if it is another short film still we can see later.
No Achan, wait and watch.
Our tech savvy guy now took them in front of the laptop (it is interesting to know that the laptop was not his..... but his father's and Sreenu had made the presentation in his dad's system!!!) and asked them to watch carefully.
Wooom.... started a neat powerpoint presentation.
The first slide is about his confession. Then comes a slide with Lakshmi's picture, her name and a few details!!!! He had managed to make 5-6 slides with 7-8 of her pictures and some more details and presented it in a professional manner.
The parents were dumbstruck (By learning about their son's love interest)!
They had a small board meeting amongst themselves and showed concern about the reaction of senior members of the family... and the topic was closed there. This was never discussed until his next trip home, by when they seemed to have accepted it all.
I found the power point presentation way of Sreenu very interesting and innovative. Good way for a few others to follow :)
Sreenu: My dad is a tech savvy guy. He is a lot into word, excel, ppt, so I thought this would be the best way to explain, though I didn't know how mom would react! Also, I wanted to make this moment memorable!!!
Isn't it cool? A power point presentation to parents about your girlfriend :)
The lovely part is that he is not an executive of business person, but a creative guy, still...
Wow ...now thats what I call the right mix of creative and technical thinking.... to think it more deeply that we all should do ..cos GOD has given us 2 parts in the brain...but we usually end up doing things being inclined and thinking towards one side only ..ONLY if we think out of the BOX !!...can we really keep our and lives of ppl around really exciting ... Here's wishing Sreenu all the very BEST for using his BRAINS...(all of it I mean)..hehe
